We are in the process of trying to set up a golf tournament at Pine Lake Golf Course for a fundraiser. The tentative date will be Sept. 21, 2024.
We are unsure about the annual Helmet Run at this time. We will update as soon as possible.
Broadway Fire Department is Station #8 of the Anderson County Fire Department. (SC) We are staffed 100% by volunteers. We have two stations that house three trucks each. We operate with two Engines, a 2500 Tanker, Rescue truck, Attack truck and a brush truck. The station was established in 1964 by community members that saw that there was a need for a volunteer fire station in this community. Broadway Fire was then made a reality. Since that time, there have been many people that have contributed as members. We can proudly say that we have only had three Chiefs within that time. Chief Arnold Kelly (1964-1981), Chief Preston Lewis (1981-2004) and Chief David Burnette (2004-present)
At Broadway Fire Department, we are always looking for more volunteers. You may go to Anderson County Fire Headquarters located at 210 McGee Rd. It is the building with the red roof, directly across from UPS. If you don't live within our response area, and are in Anderson County, there is a spot for you in another station. The helpful folks at HQ can help you determine which station you need to apply for.
Most people do not realize what goes in to being a volunteer firefighter. Volunteers are trained in the same manner and in the same classes as our career firefighters. The only difference is that we do not get paid. We have another primary job to make a living. We take the required training (and there is a lot of it) in the spare time that we have. Usually in the evenings. We respond to emergencies when we are available. A lot of times we have to leave family, meals or other functions. We are perfectly fine with that . It is understood when we sign up. We are very thankful for our families that put up with this to allow us to help others in our community. Our reward is not financial, but a "Thank you for what you do" means more to us than anything.
We also have a Junior Firefighter program. This program is for those that are ages 14 to 17 and may want to join the Fire Department. Due to certain state and county rules and regulations, you must be 18 years of age to be a firefighter.
This program is designed to produce the next generation of firefighters and teach them how to work together as a team to reach a common goal. It teaches the young firefighters core knowledge of safety for themselves and others within a controlled environment and under the supervision of program leaders and/or the station officers. The junior firefighters will be provided the opportunity to take the classes and learn the necessary skills to become a firefighter and protect life and property. If you are interested in the junior firefighter program, please get in touch with us and we will have someone reach out to you and help guide you through the application process.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and keep the stations running smoothly in our day to day operations. Donations are used for everything from utility bill payments to equipment purchases and upgrades.
